About this website — Baris Ceviz

This is the personal website of Baris Ceviz, a software engineer based in Amsterdam.

The desktop brings together a profile, a writing collection, and links to other places on the web. The profile stays open. The other windows can be moved, resized, minimized, and closed.

Reading

Articles labelled On this site open here. Articles labelled Medium, or another publication, open at their original source in a new tab. The writing collection keeps these sources together, sorted by publication date.

Every local article also has its own address. You can open it directly, bookmark it, print it, or read it without JavaScript.

A few controls

Use the dock to open or restore an app.
Drag a window by its title. Use the corner handle to resize it.
With a window title focused, use the arrow keys to move it. Hold Shift with an arrow key to resize it.
Open Appearance to change the theme or reduce visual effects.
On a phone, apps open as full-screen views. The back button returns to the home screen.

Under the surface

The site uses Astro to generate its pages and Svelte for the interactive desktop. Local posts are written in Markdown. External article metadata is kept in a local archive, so reading the directory does not depend on a publishing service responding to your browser.
